I'd Thrift That

Saturday, June 2 was an exciting day!
Not only was summer truly kicking off with the welcome of June, but my main #thriftspiration #thriftqueen Krista of @kristateeri and I debuted our Instagram hashtag #idthriftthat!!!
This hashtag offers fellow thrift queens a platform to showcase their secondhand outfits and to follow others for thriftspiration.

Instagram can too easily become a rabbit hole of advertisements making us believe the clothes we own are not good enough.
There was a time when I thought my secondhand outfits were not appropriate for my adult life and in order for my style to grow-up with me, I'd have to spend hundreds of dollars on the nicest brands.
Krista helped me find confidence in my thrifted wardrobe again. Her Instagram feed displays unique style that thrift queens are notorious for, yet, she shows balance by adding neutrals and basics. With her #ootd #thriftspiration, I started navigating thrift stores differently and realized a mature wardrobe to be proud of is attainable through thrift shopping!
When Krista agreed to do #idthriftthat with me, I about DIED! The fact I am even on this lady’s radar is an honor, and her helping me to promote secondhand fashion to give other thrifters the weekly shout-out they deserve, is beyond!
I was fortunate enough to ask Krista a couple of questions on what motivates her to shop secondhand and what #idthriftthat means for her. And to exemplify how truly amazing this queen is, she took time from her Holiday to answer.
My Motivation
"About a year ago, my colleague introduced me to a Facebook reselling group that focused on reselling timeless, high-quality items. During that time, I had become more particular about the materials and quality of my clothes. I learnt that by buying #preloved items, I could get high-quality pieces made of durable and comfortable materials at the fraction of the original price. This was my first initial motivation for buying second-hand.
Later, I watched the documentary ‘The True Cost,’ which opened my eyes to the ways the fast fashion industry exploits both people and nature. After seeing this, I made the decision to live more consciously.
I no longer wanted to support companies that cause suffering to other human beings or animals.
This was the second, and definitely the most important motivator for me to purchase second-hand items.
The third, and most recent reason for me to buy second-hand, is to better express myself through my sense of style. I noticed some time ago that “conventional” clothing stores do not provide clothes for my taste. This motivates me to scavenge the thrift stores in order to find the unique pieces that cater to my personal style."
"Shopping more consciously is an important message that needs to be spread. Via #idthriftthat that message can be communicated in a positive and engaging way. To me, #idthriftthat is all about trading inspiration, creating a community and, ultimately, raising awareness of living more sustainable."

Anyone and everyone is welcomed to join the fun by using #idthriftthat on their Instagram posts featuring secondhand items. Together, we'll motivate others to shop secondhand.
See you on the feed Thrifters
